Last week I was invited to have dinner at The Waterfront. This is a new restaurant located at 4201 S. Orange Ave in Orlando, FL. This spot just opened in April of 2017 and is located on Lake Jennie Jewel. It is such a quaint location and do not let the exterior throw you off. The food is top notch and the view of the water makes you feel like you are somewhere far away from the touristy town of Orlando.
For starters, they served us these yummy tuna dips on saltine crackers and nachos. My favorite was the one on the nachos; it had this yummy salsa on top of it to give the tuna a kick. Definitely a great way to start the evening. Along with the Florida Crush drink provided by Effen Vodka.
Then we were seated and served the most delicious and flavorful Crab Cake Slider that I had ever had! The entree is made with just the claw meat of a blue crab and the toppings of avocado and pickled onions went nicely with every bite. This was paired with the Jennie Jewel drink, another EFN Vodka drink. They used the Effen Cucumber Vodka, St. Germain, Fresh Squeezed Lemon, and Simple Syrup. It was my favorite drink and dish of the night.
Side note: EVERYTHING is made from scratch in house, except their breads and Chef AJ said he throws nothing away! If there are leftovers, you can bet he will come up wth something and add it to the menu just for the day! I absolutely love the versatility of this place.
I decided to be adventurous this night and try the Tuna Poke Salad. This is a raw ahi tuna served with cucumber, tomato, radish, avocado, and a sweet onion vinaigrette. This dish had a ton of flavor and I was not disappointed in trying this out, but I don’t think I would personally order this since I am not a big sushi eater.
Next up, was the Waterfront Burger and the French Dip. Both exceeded my expectations, especially the French Dip. I was never a fan of roast beef sandwiches, but their French Dip was amazingly delicious – including the dip. It came with caramelized onions and a horseradish mayo. I can definitely see myself ordering this again.
We sampled the Pan Roasted Catfish (not pictured) and it was paired with sautéed kale, cheddar grits, and remoulade with pickled onions. We also had a fried chicken thigh (not pictured) that was topped with a hot honey. Now if you like spice, then this would be a dish for you to order. That hot honey was a perfect blend of sweet and spicy all in one.
The last entree we had was the Steak Frites. This was a pan roasted sirloin, cut fries, and a blue cheese butter. Very tender and juicy – so much flavor in everything they set in front of me.
I had no expectations when walking into this place, but I left wanting to go back for more. Especially knowing that on any given day Chef AJ or Matt will have something new to serve up. Friends, please check out The Waterfront whenever you are in the Orlando area and be sure to tell them Crissy sent you!
Until next time…
